World Habitat, in partnership with UN-Habitat, has announced the winners of the 2024 World Habitat Awards.
The two Gold Winners are:
Housing Rights in Jakarta: Collective Action and Policy Advocacy (Indonesia)
Through a mixture of community collaboration, political advocacy and network development, the project successfully stopped the evictions of 256 people in three riverbank kampungs, and helped 400 families, who had already been evicted, return to their neighbourhood to live in new apartments.
Energiesprong (Netherlands)
Faced with this challenge, a group of Dutch housing associations decided to come together to find a faster and cheaper way to retrofit their homes at scale. The winning idea was a system that uses prefabricated insulated wall and roof panels and a range of smart green technologies. The pre-made panels are attached directly to the existing building.
