Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC): Further reading
A landlord and a property management company have been found guilty of putting tenants at risk after an investigation and prosecution by RBKC.
Council officers had made a dawn raid at the 22-bedroom house of multiple occupation (HMO) in Hyde Park Gate. They found multiple fire and damp risks - including damaged fire doors, inadequate fire separation between bedrooms, and covered fire alarms.
There was rising damp and mould growth throughout the property - the inside of the property was so damp that mushrooms were growing in upper floors.
The managing company and one of its directors were fined a total of £480,000 plus costs at Westminster Magistrate Court.
