GOV.UK: Further reading

Vulnerable renters struggling due to the impact of the pandemic will be helped by a £65 million support package announced by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

The funding will be given to councils in England to support low-income earners in rent arrears - with the aim of helping to prevent homelessness and support families get back on their feet.

The funding will be available through the winter months and households at risk of eviction or homelessness should contact their local council if they require support.

"No eviction" agreement for Covid-19-related arrears in social housing sector to continue in NI

Posted 14.10.21
Department for Communities: Further reading

Social housing tenants in Northern Ireland who are financially impacted by Covid-19 will not face eviction if they are in rent arrears because of the pandemic.

A voluntary agreement was put in place at start of the pandemic between the Department for Communities, Housing Executive and Housing Associations.

Making the announcement, Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey said:

"Whilst my hope is that we are making progress on the road to recovery, I know that the pandemic continues to create very challenging circumstances.

"For this reason, I believe it is premature to end the 'no eviction' agreement for Covid-19 related arrears at this time.

"I have asked the Housing Executive and housing associations to continue to honour this voluntary agreement until May 2022, in line with my recent decision to extend the emergency 12 week Notice to Quit period in the private rented sector."
