Plans for 1,500 affordable homes on Dagenham car plant site

Mayor of London: Further reading

A landmark deal has been announced to secure more than 1,550 genuinely affordable homes on the former Dagenham Stamping Plant car works site in East London.

The deal, which involves an £80 million grant from the Mayor of London's Affordable Housing Programme, has enabled Peabody housing association to acquire the 45-acre site.

The mixed-tenure development will provide homes at London Affordable Rent and for Shared Ownership.

Plans are still in the early stages, but it is thought the site could eventually support around 3,000 homes, creating a new neighbourhood in the wider Dagenham regeneration area.

Peabody plans to transform the disused site into a vibrant, sustainable neighbourhood that complements the wider regeneration in the borough and creates new connections for local people and businesses.

As well as new homes, the Peabody plans will reflect Dagenham's unique heritage - creating a new public park, greenways, and opportunities for learning, leisure, play and work locally.

The Dagenham project is part of Peabody's strategic partnership with the Mayor of London, which is on track to see Peabody start 7,000 new affordable homes for London by 2023.

The project highlights the increased emphasis that the Council has placed on housing delivery in recent months, in terms of achieving the objectives of the Liverpool City Plan, and prioritising its role as a housing enabler.

The scheme contains a mix of homes for affordable and social rent, and underlines the commitment to providing a range of housing tenure options across current and future schemes.

Mayor launches search for partner to build homes on Met driving school

Posted 01.03.21
Mayor of London: Further reading

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has started the search for a development partner to deliver more than 730 homes on the site of the former 'Hendon' Metropolitan Police training centre and driving school in Colindale.

60% of the proposed homes will be genuinely affordable, split between London Affordable Rent/Social Rent and Shared Ownership.

The development will be spread across two sites adjacent to the Met's 'Hendon' Peel Centre training facility.

The homes built on these sites will conform to the latest building standards set out in the newly approved London Plan including market leading safety, space and light standards.

The charging of ground rents will be prohibited and the developer will be expected to grant the longest possible lease length - ideally 999 years - to shared ownership and private sale leaseholders.
