Changes Affecting Housing

Ministerial changes were announced. The key ones affecting housing were:

John Prescott remains at the helm at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) but takes on the added role of representing the UK on diplomatic business abroad.
David Milibrand becomes Minister of Communities and Local Government. His brief covers all aspects of the ODPM and his first task will be to carry out a review of the Government's housing and regeneration programmes.
Yvette Cooper was promoted from her previous role as Junior Housing Minister, to Minister of State for Housing and Planning. Her portfolio will include the Thames Gateway and growth area. She also takes on responsibility for the market renewal pathfinders, and gypsies and travelers. Junior Minister Baroness Andrews will support her on housing matters.
Phil Woolas was appointed Local Government Minister. His brief includes supporting people, neighbourhoods, and local government efficiency and finance.
