Big Issue: Further reading
This lead article in Big Issue by Olivia Gagan considers the growing role of for-profit registered providers (FPRPs) in providing social and affordable housing and distributing the profits they make from it to shareholders or investors.
Her article traces the financial history of social housing, and how the current dire state has evolved. It accepts the growing role for FRRPs in the sector but highlights key questions that she argues need answering.
She concludes with "for-profit housing providers must hold themselves to high standards, and consistently follow through on them, if they are to win trust and respect, and make a true impact on society, not just one that sounds good on paper".
