Inquilab Housing Association and Westway Housing Association have merged to create the largest BME Registered Provider in the UK.
The two organisations merged on 1 April 2024 to create Karibu Community Homes Limited (Karibu). Karibu means 'welcome' in Swahili.
The move follows a consultation with residents, employees and key stakeholders. It was approved by the boards of Inquilab and Westway on 28 February 2024. Law firm Devonshires advised both parties jointly on the merger. Karibu will have more than 1,900 properties following the merger.

Origin Housing joins Places for People

Origin Housing, with its 7,800 homes across London and the home counties, has formally joined Places for People as a subsidiary and will begin the process of transitioning fully into the group over the course of the next year.
It will mean an additional £100 million of investment in homes over the first ten years post-merger, as well as improved local services.
Greg Reed, Group Chief Executive Officer of Places for People said: "This year will mark 100 years since Origin Housing was founded, and together we will build on this great legacy of delivering affordable, quality housing in this part of the country. We will be able to use our resources to invest an additional £100 million into these 7,800 homes so we can ensure they are improved and maintained to the best standard".
