Housing Futures is the online platform on housing strategies for cities around the globe. The following have been posted recently.


India increasing affordable housing

A recent article in the Investor brought up that affordable housing in India is set to see increased funding. The finance department is going to create a fund that will be for affordable housing construction.

The government is making a concerted effort to increase the amount of housing for those in lower income brackets around the country.

The government has pushed this housing agenda ahead for the last 3 years and included in the program is infrastructure improvement. The money will be used to help banks and companies that give funds for affordable housing.


Affordable housing development in Brazil

The project urbaBahia targets all low-income people who do not have sufficient means to maintain rent and do not have a home belonging to them (commonly known as "homeless" in Brazil) of Bahia, represented and articulated through the different social movements.

The development and implementation of at least 20 neighborhood projects, over a period of 3 years, will benefit more than 3,000 families of 1 to 5 people, or about 10,000 people.

To carry out this project, urbaMonde collaborates with UNIAO as a stakeholder in Brazil, which is responsible for managing the budget, engaging the technical core and guaranteeing the traceability of investments; Humanitarian.


Collaborating to combat homelessness in Los Angeles County

For the first time in four years, the Los Angeles County Homeless Count saw a 3% decrease in the homeless population. While progress has been made, there are still over 53,000 people living on the streets or in temporary shelters that need to find permanent and supportive housing.

To help with this effort, Measure H, a voter-approved countywide sales tax, is expected to generate $355 million annually for 10 years.

The tax dollars have already started to fund innovative programs that will help individuals and families escape homelessness and enable others to stay housed.
