'Secure-Ring', the only police-accredited security door chain on the market, is being used as part of a housing safety trial by Flintshire Community Safety Partnership.

Launched by safety and security specialist Cardea Solutions, Secure-Ring incorporates a solid steel door restrictor, security chain and a ring that slips over the door handle.

The restrictor enables the security chain to be used at three lengths, allowing residents to screen visitors to the door, and ward off intruders.

Developed by inventor Robert Service, Secure-Ring is the only security door chain in the world to be endorsed by the UK Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and achieve its rigorous Secured by Design (SBD) standard, which involves using a 'wrecking ball' test that subjects security devices to the repeated force of a 30kg steel ball - nearly twice the weight of a police battering ram.

Flintshire Community Safety Partnership, a body of key agencies including housing organisations, the local authority, the police and voluntary groups is trialling Secure-Ring with key properties identified as being particularly vulnerable to crime.

Denise Edwards, Chief Executive Officer of the Flintshire Neighbourhood Watch Association, commented:

"Improving domestic property security is a key priority in Flintshire - it's not just about doorstep crime, it's about improving safety and reducing risk.

"Secure-Ring is ideally suited to helping us meet that objective."

The product has been specifically designed for the domestic uPVC door market and, because it is designed to fit directly to the wall rather than the door frame, does not affect uPVC manufacturer warranties. Available in left or right handed models and in a choice of colours, Secure-Ring has been developed to suit all door and property types.
