SHIFT - The Sustainable Homes Index For Tomorrow - is a sustainability benchmark and best practice learning network. It provides an independent assessment of how sustainable an organisation is.

SHIFT was developed by Sustainable Homes in partnership with the Tenants Services Authority, WWF, Bank of Scotland Corporate and the UK Green Building Council.

SHIFT Members own and manage over one million homes nationwide. The group provides a bespoke feedback report and learning events throughout the year. Membership is open to any organization.

SHIFT can help an organisation to:

• Benchmark its sustainability actions.
• Set out a framework for improvement.
• Demonstrate leadership.
• Learn from peers and share best practice.

It does this by providing:

• Independent accreditation of an organisation's sustainability efforts.
• Publicity to let others know that it is acting on the environment.
• Expert guidance and examples from peers.

A SHIFT assessment focuses on four criteria - strategy and management, offices, existing stock and new build.

The outcome of the SHIFT assessment includes:

• A benchmark rating on the scale of Bronze to Platinum.
• A detailed private assessment of your organisation's sustainability performance.
• Recommendations on how to improve.
• Best practice guidance and comparison against similar organisations.
