What is the Housing e-Academy?

"Colne believe that e-learning is a cost effective and efficient method of delivering core training to its entire work force, in a streamlined and flexible way and provides an additional training tool to its already regional award winning staff training and development programme." (Colne Housing, joined 2008)

The Housing e-Academy, a division of Virtual College, began in 2006 as a direct response to a request for housing specific e-learning courses from Incommunities, a local housing provider.

The e-Academy runs as a co-operative or best practice sharing club. Housing providers join as bronze, silver, gold or platinum members, in order to access sector specific training for staff and board members. This enables the organisation to add e-learning to their training portfolio, giving learners further opportunities that are flexible and accessible whilst being cost effective. Members are encouraged to network and share best practice through quarterly networking events, quarterly webinars, bi-monthly newsletters and monthly e-Bulletins.

An offshoot of the improved links and communication between members of the Housing e-Academy is the production of new housing specific modules. Although members work in different geographical areas and with different groups they often have very similar training needs. These needs can be fulfilled through the development of new modules, the cost of which is shared across all interested parties. This ensures that the member has access to a course designed specifically to meet their training need without having to allocate huge amounts of their budget.

Tenant Plus

Tenant Plus has been designed to provide flexible, accessible and interactive training to tenants via the Internet.

Tenant Plus is an exciting venture for all those involved, as it is anticipated that providing tenant training in this way will be recognised as innovative and best practice within the sector. It enables organisations to engage with tenants who struggle to attend traditional events due to other commitments and tackle worklessness as well as other social issues such as illegal money lending.

Tenant Plus is a valuable addition to the customer engagement package of all housing providers.

Contractor Plus

Contractors are often the 'face' of the housing provider and yet are not subject to the same training requirements of staff.

Contractor Plus enables your organisation to ensure that your contractors have a sound understanding of a variety of subjects and can apply the principles of customer care, equality & diversity, conflict resolution and confidentiality. Training is accessed via the internet and can be completed around other commitments.
