Manchester City Council: Further reading
Following a major public consultation over the summer, Manchester City Council's proposed changes to its allocations policy include:
- Improving housing opportunities for homeless residents.
- Placing residents facing domestic violence in bands 1 and 2, rather than 1, 2 and 3.
- Introducing a two year residency rule to apply to be on the housing register. Currently requirement is simply to have a Manchester address.
- Changing housing register rules so that homeowners will no longer be able to join it.
- Reducing the saving limit for applicants from £75,000 to £30,000.
- Awarding different levels of priority for degrees of overcrowding.
- Having fewer bands on the allocations scheme, to make it easier to navigate and understand.
The changes are expected to be implemented in the autumn of 2020.
