Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 1 Report published

Grenfell Tower Inquiry: Further reading

Phase 1 of the Inquiry, which has just been published, has been concerned with the causes of the fire at Grenfell Tower and the actions taken by the London Fire Brigade (LFB) and other emergency services to respond to it.

Phase 2 will include a more detailed examination of certain aspects of the management of the LFB, including its understanding of modern methods of construction and of the way in which some of the materials currently in use behave when exposed to fire.

However, the report concludes that Phase 1 already identifies a number of improvements needed in the way in which high-rise residential buildings are designed, constructed, approved and managed.

Phase 1 also raises serious concerns about the way in which fire and rescue services respond to fires in such buildings.

Whilst Phase 2 of the investigation will be mote comprehensive, the Phase 1 report makes numerous recommendations that make essential reading for all involved in design and management of high rise dwellings, as well as those charged with responding to fires and other serious incidents in them.
