A collaborative innovation project, which aims to help tackle the UK housing crisis by using industrialised offsite solutions to deliver high quality homes faster, more reliably and at the same cost of masonry-built homes, has been awarded funding under the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.
The Fund iss administered by Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation.
The £6.5 million R&D project is known as Advanced Industrialised Methods for the Construction of Homes (AIMCH).
It is a collaboration between Stewart Milne Group, Barratt Developments PLC, London & Quadrant Housing Trust Ltd, Tarmac Trading Ltd, the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC) and Forster Roofing Services Ltd as the SME partner.
The project will be managed by Limberger Associates.

L&Q, one of the UK's largest housing associations and developers, has announced it is scaling up its off-site ambitions and has developed its own Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) strategy.
Last year, L&Q made a commitment to deliver 100,000 new homes with like-minded partners over the next 10 years. In order to meet this ambition, it established a Product Innovation team to explore new ways of working.
There are plans to deliver all of its new build homes using some form of MMC by 2025. Next month, L&Q will launch its first range of pre-built product designs - including bathroom units and balconies, which will then be produced next year.
Later in the Spring, it will build its first off-site manufactured homes outside of London.
By 2025, L&Q plans for all of its new builds to feature some aspect of MMC. By 2028 it aims to place its first entirely off-site manufactured home on a site.
