Statistics for 2016-17 show RTB contributes to rise in social housing sales in England

The latest statistical release shows that:
- In 2016-17 there were 23,186 sales of social housing dwellings - an increase of 5% compared to 2015-16.
- Of these 23,186 sales, 13,652 were by local authorities (an increase of 9% compared to the 2015-16 figure) and 9,534 were by private registered providers (an increase of 1% compared to 2015-16).
- Local authority Right to Buy sales amounted to 13,416, an
increase of 10% on the previous year. There were 4,694 Right to Buy sales by PRPs, up 18% on the previous year.
- In 2016-17, local authority Right to Buy sales had an average discount, of 43% of the selling price, 16 percentage points higher than in 2011-12.
- PRP Right to Buy sales had an average discount of 49% of the selling price, 18 percentage points higher than in 2011-12.
