The Mayor of London and housing association L&Q marked the latest phase of their Barking Riverside joint venture project - one of the largest and most ambitious developments in Europe.
James Murray, the Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, and David Montague, Chief Executive of L&Q, marked the start of work on building 227 homes.
Barking Riverside, a joint venture between the Mayor of London and L&Q, is one of the largest brownfield site developments in Europe, covering 443 acres and creating a brand new neighbourhood along 2km of Thames river frontage.
The development will deliver a total of 10,800 new homes with nearly 4,000 being affordable either through shared ownership or social rent.

Sustainable Homes: Article link
Sarah Daly, Director of Strategic Sustainability & Partnerships at Sustainable Homes explains why the new housing market needs the 'go-offsite portal' and how it will help transition the sector to quantity with quality.
go-offsite is the go-to resource for developers looking for information, advice, news and contacts across the value chain in modular housing.
It is a new Sustainable Homes initiative. The portal includes four key elements: a guide to offsite housing, which is devised from a developer perspective; then three directories to help developers identify manufacturers, contractors and professionals to bring schemes to fruition.
go-offsite's guide section will also raise levels of knowledge and skills in development teams to help them better understand the different offsite solutions available and to match these to proposed sites.
