Nearly 160,000 households, estimated at just under a quarter of a million people, are experiencing the worst forms of homelessness across Britain, with rough sleeping forecast to rise by 76% in the next decade unless the governments in Westminster, Scotland and Wales take long-term action to tackle it.
This is according to new expert analysis conducted for Crisis by Heriot-Watt University providing the most complete picture to-date of the worst forms of homelessness, including rough sleeping and sofa surfing, as well as 25-year forecasts for each category across England, Wales and Scotland.
The report warns that if current policies continue unchanged, the most acute forms of homelessness are likely to keep rising, with overall numbers estimated to increase by more than a quarter in the coming decade and households in unsuitable temporary accommodation set to nearly double.

Croydon Council: Article link
A new contract has started that guarantees Croydon Council a supply of quality accommodation for homeless people over the next 40 years.
Three sites - with 338 units in total - will remain used as much-needed council temporary accommodation for decades to come after the Council agreed a new contract.
The Council will save around £5 million in comparison to the previous lease, by paying 30% less each year under the new deal struck with the buildings' landlord.
The leases had been due to expire by 2025 after the Council originally took them on in 2015 and 2016 to cut its use of expensive and less suitable nightly bed and breakfast accommodation for people avoiding homelessness.
