From 19 July 2017, the Right to Buy scheme will be suspended in Cardiff for a period of five years.

Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children, Carl Sargeant, has given the go ahead for Cardiff to halt the scheme, which allowed most Council tenants who lived in their homes for five years the opportunity to buy the property and receive a discount of up to £8,000 on its value.

The Council has a very high level of housing need for all types of accommodation in the City, with around 8,300 applicants on the common housing waiting list for social housing - 4,600 of whom are in significant housing need.
