There are somewhere around 3,300 public housing authorities in the United States but the majority of them are extremely small with unit counts in the neighbourhood of 50-1000.

Top of the list is the New York Housing Authority, which with over 180,000 units is like no other public housing authority in the USA. The housing authority is actually home to 1 out of every 14 New York City residents.
