Genesis is supporting its repairs and maintenance provider Kier to trial electric Nissan vans in its fleet, with a view to rolling out over 100 vehicles if the pilot is successful.

The three-month trial, which is also being supported by North Tyneside Council, comes hot on the heels of the Government reaffirming its commitments in the recent Budget to improving the UK's air quality and channelling investment into the design and manufacture of electric vehicles.

Replacing the fleet with 100 electric vans would deliver an annual fuel saving of 145,000 litres of diesel, cost savings of up to £170,000 and a reduction of 240 tonnes in Kier's carbon footprint each year.
