Two housing projects that have the answers to issues affecting people across the globe have won the World Habitat Awards 2016-17, run by the Building and Social Housing Foundation (BSHF) with the support of UN-Habitat.
A Roof, A Skill, A Market (West Africa) is a pan-African project that creates vaulted roofs using sun-dried mud bricks, replacing unsuitable materials often used for housing in this region.
Through collaborations and knowledge exchanges, the model has been widely adopted across five countries - helping to strengthen local skills and networks.
More than Housing (Switzerland) is a co-operative housing project that is one of the largest and most ambitious in Europe promoting social diversity and environmental sustainability.
Adequate and affordable housing is made available for a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds, with community-led management and collaboration between 50 different co-operatives.
