Plans for Rushmoor Borough Council to set up its own wholly-owned housing company have moved a step closer following agreement by Cabinet.
Councillors were told that there is a strong case for the Council to take a more active role in the housing market, to meet the high demand for private sector rented properties, which has increased significantly since the financial crash in 2008.
A team of senior officers will now prepare a brief and seek quotes for external advice on housing market demand and on legal, financial, insurance and tax issues arising from setting up a company.
They will also be considering a plan for funding the company, including grant and loan funding and investment options.
