Historic joint venture aims to build 25,000 new homes a year

The giant China National Building Material Company (CNBM) has struck a £2.75 billion joint venture with Your Housing Group (YHG) and renewable energy specialist Welink to open six housebuilding factories in the UK, capable of producing 25,000 homes a year.

The joint venture will also be a platform to engage with other Local Authorities and Housing Associations as partners to help solve their housing market needs.

A key element of the partnership also sees support for local businesses by developing supply and delivery chains that source materials and labour locally to proposed developments.

Council makes 16 sites available for social housing in Glasgow

Glasgow City Council's Executive Committee has approved the disposal of 16 sites across the City to provide social housing.

The council will now negotiate with a number of housing associations on terms of the disposal of these unoccupied sites, some of which are cleared and some which still contain buildings to be demolished.

Approximately 750 new homes will be built and it is expected that their construction will generate £60 million of economic activity.

A landmark agreement between local authorities and housing providers in the Sheffield City Region will aim to drive the economy and help deliver much-needed affordable homes. Facilitated by South Yorkshire Housing Association, key political and housing figures from across the region have signed a 'Housing Compact', demonstrating their commitment to working together to solve the housing crisis and meet the needs of those living and working in the City Region.

The Sheffield City Region Housing Compact is a unique collaboration between housing associations, local authorities and arms-length management organisations operating in the Sheffield City Region, which between them own and manage over one fifth of all homes in the area.

It demonstrates a joint commitment to meeting housing need and creating balanced and sustainable communities across the City Region.
