NI housing association sector in strong position to face challenges ahead

The housing association sector in Northern Ireland is at a critical juncture in its history, but in a strong position to face the challenges ahead, according to the Northern Ireland Federation of Housing Associations (NIFHA) at its Annual Conference.

The 2016 Sector Global Accounts just published reveal that turnover of the sector has grown by 10% to nearly £283 million in the past year, with an operating surplus of £66.9 million (15% growth) and operating margin of 23.7%.

With this in mind, the Boards of housing associations Boston Mayflower and Shoreline Housing Partnership are exploring whether joining together would benefit customers and the local communities that they both serve.

L&Q launches maths and English tutoring programme for disadvantaged school children

Young people across five London boroughs are set to benefit from free English and maths tuition thanks to a £100,000 grant from the L&Q Foundation.

Called 'L&Q Tutoring', the programme will help primary school students in years five and six to increase their academic attainment with twice weekly tutoring sessions after school until the end of the summer term in 2017.

The five boroughs are Croydon, Hackney, Lewisham, Newham and Waltham Forest, over which L&Q manages more than 19,800 homes.
