Wheatley Group Tenants Get Home Checks to Beat the Winter Chill

Tenants of GHA, Cube, Loretto, West Lothian Housing Partnership and Dunedin Canmore - all part of Wheatley Group - are getting a free winter check to make sure their homes are ready for the winter and help reduce their fuel bills. The checks, which are part of Wheatley's WinterReady campaign, are available to tenants who are over 60 or disabled.

A plumber visits the tenant at home to check the heating system is working properly, pipes are protected against the cold and the home has draught-proofing.

A radiator reflector will be fitted to reduce heat loss and tenants are also shown how to turn their water off in case of emergency.

Tenants will also get helpful tips on keeping their home warm, advice on cutting their fuel bills and how to book a free flu jab.

It's the fourth year of the WinterReady campaign. Last year, more than 4,500 tenants got their homes checked - with even more checks expected to be carried out this year.

The Association also has two trained IT tutors on hand to guide tenants on their technological travels. The computer suite is available Tuesdays to Fridays from 10am to 4pm.

Guidance will be available in tasks such as accessing job websites, getting price comparison and looking to change energy suppliers.

In the coming months, the Association will be running classes on various areas of using the internet, from basic job searching to accessing the internet safely.
