New Digital Hub Helps Residents Get Online

Posted 02.03.15

A new computer suite has been opened at the Picket Twenty estate in Andover to help residents get online and access important services.

The digital hub has six computers, a printer, projector and screen. It was funded by Sovereign Housing Association and Spectrum Housing Group.

Sarah Furness, Sovereign's Financial Inclusion Coordinator said:

"We want to make our communities great places to live

"The grants that we and Spectrum gave to the centre have enabled them to have a brand new digital hub, which residents will be able to use to access training, government services and a wider job market. This in turn will help them to achieve their aspirations."

Around 30 residents came along to the event, with four people signing up to become 'digital champions' - volunteers who help teach people in their community how to use computers and the internet.

Shirley White, a trustee at the centre, said:

"A lot of people on the estate still don't have internet in their homes, so the hub provides a valuable resource for the community.

"There will also be formal training courses available with potential for accreditation."
