A Glance at the Latest Edition of Welsh Housing Quarterly

Posted 03.11.14

The October edition of Welsh Housing Quarterly (WHQ) arrived on our desk a couple of weeks ago and we have now had time to take a good look at it.

Whilst WHQ concentrates on housing and associated issues as they affect Wales, many of its excellent articles deserve, and hopefully get, a wider readership.

This month's 'Viewpoint' is provided by Duncan Forbes, with a thought-proving critique of the bedroom tax. Without ignoring the unfair implications for tenants, the article looks at the problems caused for service providers, not least those created by the hidden costs of the bedroom tax. Duncan is the well respected Chief Executive of Bron Afon Community Housing.

Governance is more important than ever for housing associations. In the first of a new series for WHQ, Tamsin Stirling reflects on developments over the summer period. She takes a look at publications from both the US and the UK, which collectively highlight key factors that influence effective board management.

In an engaging article on tenant empowerment, Dr Steve Sharples argues that we need to ask some fundamental questions about relations between landlords and tenants, rather than hide behind our assumptions.
