Awards Celebrate Residents' Impact On Communities
Posted 30.10.14
Residents, charities and community groups have been rewarded for the positive impact they have had on their communities at an awards ceremony organised by Sovereign Housing Association.
In April, Sovereign residents and employees, and the general public were asked to nominate Sovereign residents, community groups and charities in their local area that had made a real difference to people's lives.
The Association received more than 100 nominations and these were judged regionally. The 19 prize winners included:
- Nick Young, who set up Thatcham Heartstart, which runs free first aid classes and is campaigning to have defibrillators positioned around the area to help save more lives.
- Helen Grimbleby, who is a founder of Flag DV, a unique Newbury-based charity that helps victims of domestic violence. Some 22% of its clients are Sovereign residents.
- Gail Stephenson and Jo Corcoran, who run the OASIS Partnership, a support group that helps people with alcohol and drug problems.
- Kim Swinden, who runs the Hometruths domestic abuse charity, which has helped many people affected by this issue.
- Catherine Waters-Clark, who set up the Inspero charity, which educates young people how to cook and grow food.
