St. Leger Homes Celebrates Achievements of World of Work Trainees
Doncaster-based ALMO St. Leger Homes celebrated the success of trainees in its World of Work Academy with a recent graduation ceremony at Doncaster College. The scheme has achieved an impressive 60% success rate for helping people back into work.
The World of Work Academy is an innovative project to help people into work after a period of long-term unemployment. It is open to St. Leger Homes' tenants and their family members, and involves a structured programme of training and supported work placements.
St. Leger Homes launched the scheme in January of this year, working in partnership with Doncaster College, Jobcentre Plus and a range of local employers. It has been popular with St. Leger Homes' customers, with more than 100 people registering to take part within just a few days.
The first intake of trainees took up a range of placements - including administrative work, as care home staff, and in St. Leger Homes' repairs teams. By the end of their eight-week course, 60% of trainees had secured jobs and all had increased their qualifications and work-based skills.
They have also benefitted from practical sessions provided by Doncaster College on CV writing, modern job search techniques, interview skills and confidence building.
