A new online directory has gone live and is helping organisations find and trade with social enterprises.
The Buy Social directory grew out of a need to connect organisations that want to use their purchasing power to make a difference, with the huge range of social enterprises ready to do business with them.
Social enterprises are businesses that trade for social and environmental purposes, reinvesting their profits into their social mission. Bringing social enterprises into your supply chain can deliver a range of benefits and can help ensure the money you spend on goods and services stays in your local community, or that it generates additional social value.
The initiative came about as a result of discussions between Social Enterprise UK and Social Enterprise West Midlands, and Social Enterprise UK and City of London Corporation about how best to develop the marketplace for social procurement.
A partnership was created between City of London Corporation, Aspire Group, Cabinet Office and Social Enterprise UK to lead, fund and create the directory, which will complement the new social enterprise and housing hub.
For more information, to join a user group to help develop the directory, or to find out about its forthcoming launch, email Tim Edwards, Group Head of Regeneration, Aspire Group.
