SBHA Becomes the First Housing Association to Run a Local Post Office Service

Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA) became the first housing association in the UK to operate its own Post Office Local. This brings the much needed postal, banking, and financial services back to the community.

Following the closure of the local Station Road Post Office in October 2012, community leaders and residents contacted SBHA to see if a solution could be found and a new community focus established.

Introducing the Post Office Local into a housing association was a new venture for both the Post Office and SBHA, it being the first commercial venture for the housing association and the Post Office's first new format branch outside of a retail environment.

The project was taken on by SBHA Staff many of whom live in the local area and who felt passionately about this service for the community.
