St. Leger Homes of Doncaster Tackles Unemployment in Its Communities

St. Leger Homes of Doncaster - the organisation which manages 21,000 properties on behalf of Doncaster Council - is bringing new jobs and training opportunities to its local communities.

The company buys goods and services in a way which encourages the use of Doncaster-based businesses wherever possible, especially those which offer training opportunities.

It also asks its suppliers to advertise all vacancies within the Doncaster borough and circulate details of training positions to secondary schools and colleges. Over the past financial year this has led to an investment of £20 million in the Doncaster economy and created 10 trainee positions in the construction industry.

To complement its drive for local jobs, St Leger Homes is now working with its suppliers to develop a scheme to help young people and those who have been out of work for some time to access the jobs market.

Called World of Work, the scheme will include a stepped programme of support which can include work experience placements, guaranteed interviews for entry-level jobs and paid traineeships.
