BSHF Appoints New Director

Posted 07.03.13

Trustees have appointed Darinka Czischke to the post of Director at the Building and Social Housing Foundation (BSHF). Her appointment follows the departure of Diane Diacon, who has worked with BSHF for the last 36 years and been its Director since 2001.

Darinka Czischke is a specialist in housing policy and practice with wide-ranging international experience. She joins BSHF from Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.

She previously worked as Research Director of the European Social Housing Observatory at CECODHAS Housing Europe in Brussels between 2004 and 2010.

Darinka Czischke will take up her post of Director at BSHF in May.

Following Diane Diacon's long involvement with BSHF, she has decided to spend more time focussing on her own research into the scaling up of successful housing solutions, demonstrating her ongoing and shared interest in the objectives of BSHF.

Radical Decisions Needed on Making Public Land Available to Tackle Housing Shortage

Posted 07.03.13

Public sector organisations should take more immediate action to release surplus public land to aid housing development, according to Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Chief Executive Grainia Long.

Speaking at CIH's South East Conference, she said:

"Government departments and non-departmental public bodies often base their budgets on selling land at market value, but if we are to solve the housing crisis, we need cross-government action which should includes commitments to release land at below market value.

"One example of public land being used successfully is the London Olympics - so it can happen - we need to make it happen again."

Grainia Long was taking part in a panel discussion on getting Britain building again.
