Reforming Housing Benefit: Capita Conferences: 27th September 2012

Capita's 2nd National Reforming Housing Benefit Conference, held in Manchester, addressed the challenges facing the housing and welfare benefit sector.
Stefan Czerniawski, Universal Credit, Director of Business Transformation from the DWP gave a keynote address to delegates on implementing Universal Credit and the latest progress. Mr Czerniawski spoke of how the Universal Credit aims to end benefit dependency and simplify the system for greater inclusion.
During the afternoon, delegates heard from Universal Credit Pathfinders and Direct Payment Pilot Demonstration Projects on best practice, examining the lessons learnt so far, the results from early implementation and empowering tenants to ensure financial inclusion.
Delegates attending found the day insightful and benefited from hearing updates and advice from key speakers from governing bodies, councils and housing bodies such as the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Department for Work and Pensions, Wigan Council, Shropshire Council and Wakefield and District Housing.
The next Housing Benefit conferences will take place in Scotland and Central London in early December.

Tenant Engagement Conference: Capita: 28th September 2012

Capita's 12th National Tenant Engagement Conference, held in Central London, examined the growing emphasis on local accountability and tenant-led scrutiny, giving delegates advice on developing successful resident involvement initiatives.
Delegates heard best practice guidance on forming effective tenant panels and how to involve tenants in the decision-making process from key speakers from councils and housing associations, including Chris Stock, Resident Involvement and Scrutiny Manager from the London Borough of Croydon.
Expert speakers on the day gave delegates invaluable information and guidance on implementing co-regulation processes, engaging residents and achieving excellence in equality and diversity of resident involvement.
