Chief Executive's Blog - League Tables
Matthew Fox: Viridian Housing
7th June 2012
I think that league tables can be a very cost-effective way of driving service improvement. I have 3 examples straightaway that I think would benefit from the league table treatment:
A league table showing the different percentages of their stock that housing associations have identified as being let fraudulently.
I am confident that, if such a table was published, it would shame those associations at the bottom of the list (and who are doing nothing to pursue fraudulent tenants) to do far more.
A league table showing the different percentages of stock churn being achieved each year by different housing associations.
This table would have the effect of emphasising how many additional affordable homes can be created each year by those associations which try to maximise the turnover of tenancies.
A league table showing the different percentages of under-occupation and over-occupation in the stock of different housing associations.
This table would have the effect of encouraging landlords to be far more active in addressing over and under-occupation.

Shelter Responds to 68% Drop in Affordable Housing Starts
Campbell Robb: Shelter
12th June 2012
Responding to latest figures from the Homes and Communities Agency which show a 68% fall in affordable housing starts over the past year, Shelter's Chief Executive Campbell Robb said:
"Despite lots of talk from the Government about building more homes, these figures show they simply aren't being delivered. With just 15,700 affordable homes started last year, it now looks incredibly unlikely that the government will meet its target of providing 170,000 affordable homes by 2015.
"This is yet more depressing news for the millions of people struggling to get on the housing ladder, in particular the rising numbers of young families left with no option but to raise their children in unstable private rented homes.
"With house building a key lever to boost economic growth and provide jobs, we need to see bold and urgent action from this Government to drastically increase the number of affordable homes being built."
