Early in March, more than 3,000 homes transferred from South Lakeland District Council to South Lakes Housing. The transfer was approved by tenants in a November 2011 ballot. Almost 85% of tenants voted in favour of the transfer (turnout 66%).
South Lakes Housing was previously the Council's arm's-length management organisation.
The transfer will open the way for £38 million to be invested in the transferred homes in the coming year. The total investment resulting from the transfer will be £188 million over 30 years.
The transfer was marked with the launch of South Lakes Housing's '100 day promises', which starts with a programme of fitting modern front and back doors and double glazing. This will be followed with other improvement programmes that have been requested by tenants.
