Birmingham Council Scoops Overall Prize at the UK Housing Awards

Birmingham City Council won the overall prize at the UK Housing Awards for its Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust scheme, which delivers hundreds of affordable but high-quality new homes each year.

Established in January 2009, Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust has so far provided Birmingham council tenants with more than 150 brand new homes and secured dozens of apprenticeships for local young people in the construction industry.

The winners of the 2011 UK Housing Awards were announced by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) and Inside Housing magazine at a ceremony presented by Michael Portillo.

The UK Housing Awards, now in their fifteenth year, recognise excellence across 11 categories and present prizes for outstanding achievement in housing in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England and for the UK as a whole.

The award for outstanding achievement in housing in Northern Ireland went to Fold Housing Association for its Castle Erne Scheme, in Scotland to Rettie & Co, Springfield Properties and DCHA for their Resonance at Moray Apartments, Edinburgh Model, in Wales to RCT Homes for its Supporting Communities to Thrive Project, and in England to Birmingham City Council for its Birmingham Municipal Housing Trust.
