Council Transfers 12,000 Homes to First Choice Homes Oldham

First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) has officially taken over the ownership and management of Oldham Council's social housing stock of 12,000 homes.

FCHO, a not-for-profit housing association, will now start to deliver the £149 million investment programme which tenants voted for in April 2010. Tenants will soon receive full details of the Association's investment programme for the first five years.

Cath Green, FCHO's Chief Executive, said:

"Everyone at FCHO is determined to make a real impact. We are ready to start delivering new kitchens, bathrooms, central heating and electrical rewires from day one.

"Our customers will be at the heart of everything we do. We want to work together with our tenants and partners to create high quality homes, neighbourhoods and estates that we can be proud of.

"That means more than improvements to bricks and mortar, we will be investing in tackling antisocial behaviour, for example, and identifying improvements that tenants want to see on their estates, such as better lighting, paths and fences.

"We want to transform estates into neighbourhoods where people feel they belong and are proud to call home."

Yes Vote In Latest Glasgow HA Ballot

Tenants in Maryhill and Ruchill have voted to transfer ownership of their homes from Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) to Maryhill Housing Association.

The 'yes' vote will result in the transfer of 2,042 homes under the process known as Second Stage Transfer (SST).

A total of 72.5% of the tenants who voted in the ballot supported the transfer of their homes to Maryhill Housing Association. The turnout in the ballot was 39.6% of all those eligible to vote.

If Scottish Ministers give their consent, the transfer of homes will take place later this year. It will, so far, be the largest number of homes to transfer to one organisation under SST.

The latest ballots, in which tenants voted by post, text, phone or online, began in January and ran for 21 days.

So far, nearly 5,000 GHA homes have been transferred to community-based housing associations through the SST process.
