Youngsters Brighton up Estate with Mural

First Choice Homes Oldham has been working with partners Groundwork to create a splash of colour on the Coldhurst estate.

What was formally a dull concrete wall has been transformed into a mural depicting Oldham, complete with 'postcard snapshots' of landmarks in the town.

Working with Russell Meehan, an urban artist enlisted by Groundwork, the mural was painted by the youngsters from the estate and surrounding area, who are involved in Groundwork schemes and also incorporates their names across the painting.

Groundwork supports communities in need, working with partners to help improve the quality of people’s lives, their prospects and potential and the places where they live, work and play.

Derby Homes Supports Children's Holiday Centre

Derby Homes is supporting a charity that helps children from deprived families take a holiday. It will sponsor rooms at the Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre in Skegness, to allow children aged between 7 and 13 from council estates in priority areas of Derby to spend time at the centre.

Phil Davies, Chief Executive of Derby Homes said:

"It's estimated that around 70% of the children who visit the Derbyshire Children's Holiday Centre from the Derby area live in homes managed by Derby Homes and we're keen to support this initiative."

The Derby Homes Board has agreed to sponsor a five bedroom girl's room, a five bedroom boy's room, and a single room for a disabled child for one week this summer.
