Sheltered Housing Residents Petition Downing Street
Sheltered housing campaigners descended on Downing Street to hand over a petition, urging the Government to restore resident warden coverage at sheltered accommodation across the country.
Led by a lone piper, the campaigners assembled in Trafalgar Square to hear speeches from MPs David Drew, Geoffrey Cox and Adrian Sanders before marching to Downing Street.
Each of the MPs has given their support to the campaign, which is calling for the return of traditional warden coverage for all residents.
Also speaking at the event was Chris Took, the Lib-Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Ashford, in Kent, who has been leading the campaign to ensure that this issue is included in his Party's National Manifesto under the Quality of Life policy and the Campaign for Fairer Rights for Elderly People.

Care Scheme Residents Go Abseiling
Adventurous residents from a Birmingham care scheme had a taste of the high life when they tried abseiling.
Five residents from Trittiford Road, an Accord Housing Association-run scheme for people with learning and physical disabilities, visited Ackers Adventure in Sparkbrook. ,p>The aim of the day was to give the residents a chance to try a new activity in a fun and friendly way. Police Community Support Officers from Yardley Wood attended the event to show their support.
Sue Eccles, Health Care Assistant at Trittiford Road, said:
"Our residents were really keen to try something new and adventurous and what better way of doing that than by visiting an activity centre.
"We think that it’s really important to offer our clients the support they need while promoting their independence - allowing them to learn new skills like this."
Accord provides Care & Support services at more than 50 sites in the Midlands for older people, people with learning disabilities, dementia and mental health concerns.
