National Tenant Voice Takes Shape

Plans for the new independent National Tenant Voice (NTV), which will give tenants a say on the housing issues affecting them, were published and accepted by Ministers.

The proposals suggested by tenants include a National Tenant Council made up of 50 social housing tenants from across the country, to advise the NTV Board on issues concerning them. Of these, 24 will be nominated from existing tenant organisations and 26 will be nominated through open recruitment.

The new proposals also outline the roles and responsibilities of the National Tenant Voice including:

The National Tenant Voice will be a Non-Departmental Public Body with a tenant-majority board of directors.

It is expected that the National Tenant Council will be in place by summer 2009 and the NTV to be up and running by early 2010.
