A scheme of 50 rented and leasehold flats, including a converted Grade II listed former coach house, was officially handed over by its current owners Guinness Northern Counties to Sadeh Lok Housing Group.
The properties at Woodfield Court, Huddersfield have been managed by Sadeh Lok on behalf on Guinness Northern Counties since 1993.
The transfer of ownership, which has been agreed with tenants, will increase Sadeh Lok's local presence and strengthen its asset base and financial viability, with the scheme being valued in excess of £2.6 million.
Sadeh Lok Housing Group was formed in 1988 to serve the needs of black and minority ethnic communities and now owns and manages over 1,000 homes across West and South Yorkshire.
The tenant consultation process began in June 2007, with the appointment of Open Communities Ltd to provide independent advice and support to Guinness Northern Counties residents regarding the transfer proposals. The process culminated in a positive vote by residents in February 2008.
Jamie Martin, Director of Open Communities, said:
"'We were genuinely impressed by the way these two RSLs worked so well together, with the interests of residents very much at the forefront. We can say from our impartial viewpoint that the transfer makes sense for all involved."
