Conference Calls for Better Access to Housing Studies

The CIH Cymru Conference was the venue for the launch of a new report, Housing Education and Training in Wales, which calls for housing studies to be made more accessible in order to meet the changing needs of the sector.

The report is the result of a collaborative study carried out by CIH Cymru, Cardiff University, University of Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) and North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI).

As key providers of CIH accredited education and training in Wales, the research group, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, explored to what extent education and training needs were being met by existing provision.

The research found a continued demand for housing education and training in Wales.

There were also geographical issues in terms of access to provision, which demonstrated a need for the development of new modes of delivery to ensure that organisations in West Wales are able to access education and training.

The study also identified the need for education providers to work in collaboration with CIH Cymru, other professional bodies and housing and support organisations in Wales to continue to develop education and training that reflects the changing needs of the sector.

Further findings also identified a need for the housing profession to look to the future and highlight career opportunities and promote a positive image of housing as a career.
