Mobile Working Solution Launched
Local government software solutions provider IBS OPENSystems launched its Mobile Working Solution - OPENMobile. The solution, which works on a handheld computer such as a PDA, enables housing staff to access core data and enter information into live housing systems, whilst on the move.
Through having mobile access, housing staff can update systems as they work. For example, staff undertaking repair work in rural areas may update records in real-time, rather than return to the office to do so. Through using mobile applications across the workforce data entry is minimised, accuracy is improved, and overall productivity is enhanced.
Specific modules within OPENMobile include Repair Job Processing and Management, Tenancy and Arrears Management, Estate Management, and Reporting/KPI information.
IBS OPENSystems also announced a new £600,000 contract with Taunton Deane BC to implement its OPENRevenues system. The Council is investing in an integrated IT system for the management and administration of its revenues and benefits.
Anchor Upgrades Financial Systems
Anchor Trust signed a contract worth £1.1 million with Agresso, to provide financial and business support software. The contract will see Anchor fully benefit from the new system by the end of 2006.
Civica to Acquire Comino
Subject to finalising various legal and contractual requirements, Comino Group announced that it is to be acquired by Civica plc.
Comino supplies Service Delivery Solutions to local government, social housing, and occupational pensions using its Workflow Electronic Document Management, and its newer Electronic Document and Records Management.
Civica is an established provider of consulting, software, and managed services, supplying around 83% of the UK's local authorities.
New System Offers Single Point of Contact
Dublin City Council enjoyed its first full month with a new IT system, which is set to benefit the residents of over 62,000 properties. The new system manages a single point of contact for all housing services offered by the Council. Previously, individual services were accessed through separate contact numbers. The system, implemented by Anite, will provide residents with a more consistent and responsive service with greater transparency.
The seven-year deal to integrate the Council's IT systems will enable council staff to give citizens advice and updates on rental accommodation, allocations, waiting lists, repairs, maintenance, and house sales. In addition to the new IT system, Anite will provide a mobile solution to allow staff to conduct vacant property and repairs inspections on-site, further increasing efficiency and productivity.
The improved system will allow the Council to provide a more flexible and adaptable approach to local requirements and policies, minimising the duplication of data entry and easing reporting. The contract includes the provision of the system to 27,000 council-managed social housing properties and 35,000 privately rented properties. In addition, Clúid Housing Association, a partner of the Council, will also be integrated within the Anite systems.
