Homelessness in Canada
In Canada, the annual Raising the Roof campaign raised more than $1.2 million, for 80 homelessness agencies across Canada. Homelessness charity Raising the Roof was foundered in 1997, and is the only homelessness charity in Canada dedicated to long-term solutions. Further to fund raising, the charity works to:
- Create better awareness of homelessness among Canadians;
- Build partnerships between corporations, organisations, and interested individuals to tackle the causes of and problems related to homelessness.
Figures suggest some 1.7 million households are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Canada. Street homelessness is the tip of the problem; 80% of Canada's homeless are the hidden homeless.
